Cooked ham

Origin

The origins of ham date back to Ancient Roman times and the northern regions of the empire, where still now a day ham is produced in big quantities. The main production sites were and still are located in Nothern Italy. This recipe was probably elaborated to speed up the cooking process of roasting pork legs. Today, real ham, or prosciutto, is made with deboned pork legs and it undergoes a very long process, made of several steps and phases.

Cookit

Ham is considered primarily to be a filling for sandwiches. It can be sredded and used as filling for crepes, cannelloni, ravioli or pies. It can be diced and used to enrich pasta dishes or rice salads. Pates and mousses can also be prepared with cooked ham.

Did you know that

Cooked ham, only other charcuteries, can also be eaten during pregnancy because, since it is cooked, it cannot lead to any parasitic infection.
