Chicken

Chicken broth is the best cure for flu!

Origin

The chicken we know nowadays is the result of rooster domestication in Asia, and they were initially intended for the sole purpose of combat. When chicken began to be consumed as food, it spread rapidly all over Europe, especially for richer classes. However, it was only in the 19th century that chicken became available to all social classes. Chicken meat is lean and low in calories but it has a high protein content. It is particularly consumed by sportsmen and people who are on a diet. Also, it is one of the first kind of meat introduced in babies diets.

Cook It

Breast is the easiest cut of the chicken to cook. It can be sliced and pounded, breaded and panfried or also diced and sauteed with vegetables and curry. It can be cooked on grill and then served with pesto. Other parts of chicken, such as the thighs, have a tender and tastier meat, which remains soft and moist even when roasted in the oven. In USA, a very popular plate is deepfried and breaded thighs or chicken wings, previously marinated in buttermilk.

Did You Know That?

Chicken meat should be only eaten after having been cooked properly. Raw chicken contains harmful bacterias as salmonella, and they are killed at 70 degrees.
