Cumin

Origin

Cumin is original from Syria. Seeds are used as a spice, spread since thousands of years in the Mediterranean dock. These seeds have a high content of oil, a bitter taste and a very intense smell. In ancient times, cumin was used to spice and flavor many dishes. It appears that in ancient Greece, cumin was left on the table for all diners to use and this is something that now a day is still traditional in Morocco.

Cook it

Cumin is one of many spices in indian curry. It is especially used to favor stews and meat or vegetable curry or pilaf rice. According to ayurvedic tradition, a cumin infusion can help swelling sensation and stimulates the digestion.

Arabs thought that cumin was aphrodisiac mixed with honey and black pepper. In Italy, ladies from certain areas in Piedmont were used to give to their men as a present bread and wine flavored with cumin, to not make him forget the taste of their lands.
