Marjoram

A bit of marjoran sprinkled on seasones cheeses, pear and nuts! Yummy!

Origin

This herb dates back to the ancient Greeks and it was considered a gift from the goddess Aphrodite. It used to be associated with happiness and luck. Later on, marjoram leaves and flowers were collected in linen bags to scent and make linens perfumed. Marjoram is a typical plant found in North Africa, Middle East and the Mediterranean area. It is used a lot in Italian and Greek cuisines.

Cook it

Marjoram belongs to the oregano family but has a much more delicate flavor. It is used to cook to enrich dishes of all kind: from pasta or risotto to main dishes, side dishes and sauces. It can be used both fresh and dried. Freshly picked marjoram has a much more intense scent and flavor than the dry one. This ingredient is also used to prepare teas and herbal infusions, Marjoram has diuretic, digestive and antispasmodic properties suitable for those who have digestive problems.

Did you Know that

Marjoran was once used as a detergent to clean the house because of its antiseptic and deodorant properties. Recently, it has been used again to produce bio-detergents.
