Fig

Very happy-hour: toasted bread with tomatoes, raw ham and fig sauce!

Origin

With really ancient origins, fig was considered a very nutrient fruit. Both Greeks and Romans enhanced its reinvigorating properties. Plato ate this fruit a lot, since he was convinced that it reinforced intellect. For this reason, he was called “fig eater”.

Cook it

Excellent to be eaten fresh, just picked, or dry. Figs have a strong but versatile taste, that can be used in savoury and sweet dishes. Perfect to be combined with focaccias and risotto but also ideal for cakes, pies and jams.
